SnewS with Lex and Mais: Tiny Mushroom House

Snews

Tiny Mushroom House

real-life 'Shroom Shack is being grown right now in Green Island, NY. To be fair, the Mushroom Tiny House won’t be made completely of fungi (a wooden frame supports the structure)

but the insulation and ceiling tiles will all use Ecovative’s unique mycelium technology.

Unlike traditional houses, which are often lined with petroleum-based foam insulation, the wooden walls of the Mushroom Tiny House are lined with Mycelium (or mushroom “roots”).
This mushroom insulation forms an airtight seal and excellent thermal protection. According to Ecovative, it is also affordable, fire resistant and has low or no VOCs.  What is a VOC? It stands for  Volatile organic compound which are organic chemicals that have a high vapour pressure at ordinary, room-temperature conditions. Their high vapour pressure results from a low boiling point, which causes large numbers of molecules to evaporate or sublimate from the liquid or solid form of the compound and enter the surrounding air. An example is Formaldehyde
In addition to naturally-grown insulation, the house also has ceiling tiles made of mushroom material.

Way to go Green!!  We will take a mushroom shack any day!!

Lex Gives it a thumbs up!
