Food For Health with Lex and Mais: After School Snacks

Food For Health
After School Snacks

We've got some easy yet healthy after school snacks.  One of our favorites is fruit smoothies.  Smoothies are great because you can pack a whole bunch of different fruits or veggies into one smoothie giving the kids all the different vitamins they need.  They can easily go from being a smoothie to being a yummy popsicle too.  All you've gotta do is get the popsicle molds, pour the smoothie in the mold, freeze and twalla you've got a healthy popsicle smoothie snack yum yum.  We sneak different veggies into the smoothie my favorites are kale and spinach both are packed with protein.  We also like to add a probiotic powder in the smoothie….

Ingredients

  • 1/2 banana
  • 2/5 cup blueberries (frozen)
  • 5/6 cup blackberry (frozen)
  • 3/8 cup spinach (frozen, large pieces broken up)
  • 1/2 cup pineapple chunks
  • juice

Hummus as a yummy dip with veggies or in place of mayo on a sandwich is one of our fav snacks. Hummus is pureed chick peas.  Chick peas are super healthy for you they are packed full of protein and fibre making it the perfect after school snack.

For a fun snack I like to make some fruit and cheese kabobs.  I just add whatever fruits I have in the garden or the fridge with some cheese and yum yum thats a great snack too because you can pre make them and the kids can have them for more than one day in a row.  They are also easy enough for older kids to do it themselves.  Easy breezy Japaneezy.

We also love these super healthy and yummy vegan balls.  They have dates or prunes mashed up with coconut, sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds.  Nom Nom.
