Far Out With Lex and Mais: 12 Things that Happy people do differently

Far Out

12 Things happy people do differently

1. Express Gratitude
When you appreciate what you have, what you have appreciates in value. If we aren’t thankful for what we already have, we will have a hard time ever being happy.

 2. Cultivate optimism
People who think optimistically see the world as a place packed with endless opportunities, especially in trying times.  Everything really is all based on what your perspective is.  If you think about negative things then you produce negative things in daily life.  If you can think positively then you perceive things to be positive in your life.

 3. Avoid over-thinking and social comparison
Comparing yourself to someone else can be poisonous. The only person you should compare yourself to is the person you were yesterday.

4. Practice Acts of Kindness
Selflessly helping someone is a super powerful way to feel good inside.  After all everything comes back around.

5. Nurture Social Relationships
The happiest people are those who have deep, meaningful relationships.

6. Develop strategies for coping
It helps to have healthy strategies for coping with unexpected life changes. Lex has a very hard time with change which is awful because the only constant in life is change.  The one thing that helps her cope with anything besides drinking beer, or wine, or smoking a lil binger is, taking a bath.  "If Ive had a bad day a bath will just wash it all away.  I use baking soda because it balances energy, I use epsom salt to soothe muscles, I use an uplifting essential oil such as grapefruit or orange.  Sometimes I cut an orange and squeeze the juice in the bath and then let orange slices float around in the bath with me.  It is so beautiful and really uplifts my spirits.  Baths, wine, chocolate, herb great coping tools

7. Learn to forgive
Harboring feelings of hatred is horrible for your well-being.

8. Increase flow experiences
Flow is a state in which it feels like time stands still. It’s when you’re so focused on what you’re doing that nothing distracts  or competes for your attention.

9. Savor life’s joys
Deep happiness cannot exist without slowing down to enjoy the joy. Rest. Be thankful to be alive and its experiences. We think journaling is a great way to relive the experience and to pass on the memory to others one day.  We try to keep away from writing negative things down in a journal.  Instead we write down things that have happened that were negative that we have to let go and we have a small ritual where we burn the paper that has the negative thoughts on it and with that we let it go.  We save the good things for our journal so we can relive the good things in our lives again.

10. Commit to your goals
Persistence is key. Magical things happen when we commit ourselves to accomplish our goals.

11. Practice spirituality
When we practice spirituality, we recognize life is bigger than us. We surrender the silly idea that we are the mightiest life form ever.  "Whatever God you believe in, we come from the same one"-Mackelmore

12. Take care of your body
Nutrition and exercise: this is crucial to being well-balanced and the happiest person you can be.

What's Yo Status?: Dolphins Friend or Foe? That is the question

What's Yo Status?

Do Dolphins Rape You?

We are talking about Dolphins.  Not about how intelligent they are, or how they are often affectionate toward and form bonds with humans, but how they try to rape and drown people; they gang rape their females and sometimes hold them hostage for weeks; they murder baby porpoises for fun; they kill the babies of rival male dolphins, because as soon as her child dies, a female dolphin is ready to be raped and impregnated immediately. Criminals!

 Well that's just wrong!!
Unless the dolphins are raised in captivity and specifically taught how to interact safely with humans, they are still wild animals that can weigh up to 600 pounds.
So we looked up some stuff on dolphins and came across 6 Badass Facts You Didn't Know About Dolphins...

6. Dolphins evolved from land animals, predators resembling wolves
When most people think of evolution they picture fish sprouting legs and walking on land. Dolphins don't give a XXXX what most people think. They've seen land and had legs and decided all that was for sissies. No, the dolphin's level of badassery was far too great to be restricted by gravity. And since air is basically just an incredibly more boring version of water, the dolphin chose to evolve back into a sea creature and see what chaos it could unleash in the murky depths of the scary, unforgiving ocean.

5. The killer whale is a goddamn dolphin
This ain't no freakin whale
Yeah, that’s right... bloodthirsty Shamu up there is Flipper's cousin. And it's worth noting Orcas didn't get the name 'Killer Whales' lightly either; they freakin earned that title. Three people have died as the result of just one of these beasts in SeaWorld/SeaLand alone (Good serial killers never stay in one place). And here we're talking about an Orca specially trained NOT to kill people.

 4. Dolphins are dirty tramps
Bow Chicka Wowoww...
And I mean they are just dirty, filthy horndogs. These creatures are so sexually active they make that promiscuous cheerleader you knew in high school look like... well like you in high school. If there are any STDs in the dolphin world you can bet that every single one of these freaky bastiches has got it. Aside from being the only animal other than primates recorded to have sex purely for pleasure, dolphins take it a step further by engaging in bisexual and homosexual orgies.

3. Dolphins are interspecial cooperative hunters
Teamwork: Kills shit quicker
Everyone knows dolphins are smart. They wouldn't have discovered sex toys if they weren't. In fact, entire articles, books even, have been written on the intelligence of these creatures. Of course, I only care about the badass results of this intelligence and interspecies hunting is definitely one of them. Dolphins have been observed cooperating with birds, sharks and humans alike to herd schools of fish into swirling enclosed clusters of death.

2. Dolphins are trained as undersea Rambos
Sneak Attack, Bitch!
The U.S. Government will only admit to training dolphins to locate undersea mines and stranded divers. That's pretty cool, but it's not really all that badass. This is why it's important to remember that half of what the U.S. government tells you is a lie. In 2000 it was reported that Soviet trained combat dolphins were sold to Iran. If the U.S. didn't have combat dolphins when the ruskies did (the same U.S. government that gave its own agents LSD in an attempt to beat the Russians to super powers), then you can damn well believe they've got them now that Iran does.

Mais:1. Dolphins are psychotic killers and rapists
OK, I'll mention the rape first since I promised I'd return to the dolphins' sadistic sexual exploits. They rape each other. Male or female, old or young, it doesn't matter. Dolphins love rape. In fact I'm pretty sure the only thing dolphins love more than forcing themselves on one another (and sometimes humans) is killing baby porpoises and tossing around their brutalized corpses.
Take that you evil porpoise!
In 1997 scientists were baffled when they noticed savagely beaten corpses of baby dolphins washing up on the shores of Virginia (oh yeah, side note: they massacre their own young as well). Other scientists were equally baffled by the same thing happening with baby porpoises on the shores of Scotland. Since, I'm assuming, American scientists and Scottish scientists don't get along very well, different theories were put forth to explain these mass deaths. Almost ten years later and the truth is finally revealed when people witness firsthand the brutal murders taking place. We will put a link to these 6 badass facts you never knew about dolphins on the website for your own personal pleasure.  Lexandmais.com

Snews with Lex and Mais: Fukushima

SNEWS

FUKUSHIMA:

Japan has a crisis and has had a crisis for some time now but recently they made it public.  In March of 2011 there was an Earthquake in Japan the earthquake and tsunami triggered Fukushimas meltdown.  According to Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, about 300 tons of radioactive groundwater flow into the Pacific daily.  That's a shit load of radioactive water flowing into the Pacific.

Tokyo Electric (TEPCO) says water’s getting over and around “chemical walls.” It can’t be stopped. Three Fukushima reactors suffered meltdowns. A fourth was badly damaged.  Unfortunately, with that much radiation in the ocean water the risk of getting cancer is higher and not just in Japan.  Nuclear expert Helen Caldicott’s says “As a physician, I contend that nuclear technology threatens life on our planet with extinction.” If present trends continue, the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink will soon be contaminated with enough radioactive pollutants to pose a potential health hazard far greater than any plague humanity has ever experienced.”  It doesn’t get any clearer than that.

So now we know some of the facts about Fukushima.  Please check our website for links so you can read more about this for yourself. There are always solutions to any problem so we looked some up and here is what we came up with.  Dr Masaru Emoto Suggests that hemp has a high enough frequency that it can heal Fukushima if it is planted all around.   Just push play to watch that video.  I am sorry to say that this was the only solution to the problem that I could find.
Industrial Hemp has so many awesome uses.

Because of the contamination of the ocean we should all think before eating fish, seaweed, and basically anything that comes from the ocean.  If you are swimming in the ocean make sure to soak in a baking soda bath afterwards.  Stay healthy by eating a healthy diet.  And stay informed so you know what is going on and then can make healthy decisions for yourself and your loved ones.

Netflix Pick of the Week

This week we  went back to the past and watched this hilarious movie.  This movie is a spin off of another older movie called clerks.  It is also hilarious.  This movie has a really great cast Jason Mewes plays Jay, Kevin Smith wrote and directed the film as well as plays Silent Bob, Jason Lee, Ben Affleck, Shannon Elizabeth, Eliza Dushku, Will Ferrell, Ali Larter, Chris Rock, Brian O'Halloran, and Jeff Anderson.  The movie is about these two dudes Jay and Silent Bob who write a comic book and someone decides to make the comic book into a movie but the movie is already getting really bad press so Jay and Silent Bob go on an adventure to keep the movie from being made.  It's great!  Definitely worth the watch.

 Website of the Week:

This week we found this website shouldidrinkthisfuckingbeer.com.  I actually came across it on Facebook, go figure, from my friend Mariah, who posted on a mutual friends wall for his birthday.  It's pretty fucking hilarious.
This website shouldidrinkthisfuckingbeer.com encourages you to input a beer name you like, and it will give you its opinion of whether that beer is acceptable or not AND  of additional beer suggestions. The site encourages users to support craft breweries.

The compliments are swell, and the criticisms are HARSH, man. For instance, we put in Bud Light knowing that it would be a good response, and the site said "Buster Bluth is smarter than you!!" I was dying.
Once you get over the ever-so-harsh responses, crack open one of the craft brews they suggest.

BEER: A magic potion used to make people of the opposite look better

"She had no teeth and a 3 inch diameter goiter on the side of her bearded face, but after a 12 pack of beer I didn't even notice."

App of the Week

This app is a great idea.  It takes the photos that you have been taking with your phone and for the low price of $2.99 it sends you a little book of all those pictures right to your mailbox and the pictures are perforated so you can take the pics out of the book and put them in a frame or hang them on the fridge or whatever you would like.

Food For Health with Lex and Mais: After School Snacks

Food For Health
After School Snacks

We've got some easy yet healthy after school snacks.  One of our favorites is fruit smoothies.  Smoothies are great because you can pack a whole bunch of different fruits or veggies into one smoothie giving the kids all the different vitamins they need.  They can easily go from being a smoothie to being a yummy popsicle too.  All you've gotta do is get the popsicle molds, pour the smoothie in the mold, freeze and twalla you've got a healthy popsicle smoothie snack yum yum.  We sneak different veggies into the smoothie my favorites are kale and spinach both are packed with protein.  We also like to add a probiotic powder in the smoothie….

Ingredients

  • 1/2 banana
  • 2/5 cup blueberries (frozen)
  • 5/6 cup blackberry (frozen)
  • 3/8 cup spinach (frozen, large pieces broken up)
  • 1/2 cup pineapple chunks
  • juice

Hummus as a yummy dip with veggies or in place of mayo on a sandwich is one of our fav snacks. Hummus is pureed chick peas.  Chick peas are super healthy for you they are packed full of protein and fibre making it the perfect after school snack.

For a fun snack I like to make some fruit and cheese kabobs.  I just add whatever fruits I have in the garden or the fridge with some cheese and yum yum thats a great snack too because you can pre make them and the kids can have them for more than one day in a row.  They are also easy enough for older kids to do it themselves.  Easy breezy Japaneezy.

We also love these super healthy and yummy vegan balls.  They have dates or prunes mashed up with coconut, sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds.  Nom Nom.

Balancing the Crown Chakra with Lex and Mais

Balancing the Crown Chakra

This week on far out we are going to cover the crown chakra this is our final chakra of the 7 chakra  system in the body.  So far we've covered the base chakra, the sacral chakra, the solar plexus chakra,     the heart chakra, the throat chakra, the third eye chakra and now for the grand finale the crown chakra

The color of the crown chakra is violet the crown chakra is about wisdom and being one with the world. When this chakra is open, you are unprejudiced and quite aware of the world and yourself.
If it is under-active, you're not very aware of spirituality. You're probably quite rigid in your thinking.
If this chakra is over-active, you are probably intellectualizing things too much. You may be addicted to spirituality and are probably ignoring your bodily needs.

Ways to balance the chakra, meditation helps to wake up the crown chakra as well as balance,  Check your ego, help others, Love yourself, the yoga pose for the crown chakra is a headstand.

Sarah Outen paddles around the world

Here is a very amazing story. A woman named Sarah Outen from the U.K. rows herself in a boat around the world. Her latest expedition was called the London2london expedition.  She has traveled by kayak and bike through Asia and Europe.  Now she is preparing a journey rowing her a kayak across the Pacific Ocean.  We actually heard her talk about her latest trip the London2london expedition and it sounded absolutely horrible.  The blissful feeling at the end of something like that is apparently enough to make you want to and try it again.  It must be similar to child birth you just forget about it and bam say hey lets go ahead and try that again.  Amazing.  Well I hope she has a safe travel.  If you want to see more on that check out her blog at www.sarahouten.com.

Unfortunately there was a shark attack on one of Mauis beaches recently.  Sharks are scary guys.  There was that storm flossie right before the attack and so I am sure that is what brought the shark in.  Gotta stay outta the ocean for a bit after a storm.  We looked up some shark facts and thought we would share em with ya'll.

  •  Surfers accounted for 50% of the shark attacks
  •  Snorklers accounted for a whopping 8% of the shark attacks in 2010
  •  The year 2010 was the most dangerous year in decades for shark attacks
  •   September is the month with the most shark attacks in Florida

Get Stoopid With Lex and Mais

GET STOOPID

Redbox Pick of the Week:

This movie is about a couple of guys who met eachother when they were kids. Burt played by Steve Carell and Anton played by Steve Buscemi  They were brought together by Burts love of Magic.  As adults they do a show together  in Las Vegas.  As adults they are becoming bored with their friendship has grown apart because they can barely stand each other.  They have some competition with another magician named Steve played by Jim Carrey.  Lex did not like this one she thought it was totally ridiculous and Jim Carreys character was a total creep.  Mais thought the movie was great and hilarious and she recommends it!

App of the Week:

Google Sky Map

This is a really fun app.  You can point it anywhere in the sky and it will show the different constellations, where the planets are, and even where the astrology signs are in the sky.  This app is really fun.
