Lighten Up With Lex and Mais Show #5 Fermented Foods Are Good For You

Welcome to Lighten up with Lex and Mais

Mais, Our Special Guest Paul Lamparelli, and Lex

This week we had such a fun time taking our kids out to the movies.  We went and saw the new kids cartoon Epic and it sure was Epic after all. We ate some cheap Costco pizza in the parking lot before the show and then went and ate some over priced popcorn and soda at the movie theater.  It was pretty satisfying.  After the movie we ditched the kids and went to hang out with our pal Trish Da Dish at a beach party.  It was a lovely evening only slightly windy and super warm.  Good times were had by all!

Food For Health:

Sauerkraut, Fermented Beets, Feta Cheese, And Cherry Cider

This week on Food For Health we were lucky enough to have a special guest Chef Paul Lamparelli came on and talk about fermented foods.  He brought in some of the yummiest kraut we have ever tasted, cheese (who would have thought cheese was a fermented food?), beets which were so delicious we could have eaten the whole jar full, and for our cocktail we had a very yummy cherry cider (we did drink all of that haha).  All of the foods and drinks were of course made by Paul himself.  He gave us such great insight on why fermented food is good for your health.  You will definitely want to check out the show and gain some great knowledge from a really awesome knowledgable chef.

Get Stoopid:

Netflix Pick of the week

Arrested Development has a new season on Netflix.  Hooray for new shit to watch on Netflix!  This show is absolutely hilarious!  It is about a rich crazy family with the last name Bluth.  At the center of the show is Michael Bluth played by Jason Bateman, the show's straight man, who strives to do the right thing and keep his family together, despite their materialism, selfishness, and manipulative natures. Michael is a widowed single father.  His teenage son, George Michael played by Michael Cera, has the same qualities of decency and just so happens to be in Love with his cousin Maeby.  Michael's father, George Bluth Sr. played by Jeffery Tambor, Gets arrested for swindling money from the company so he is in jail and is constantly trying to manipulate the family. His wife, and Michael's mother, Lucille played by Jessica Walter, is equally manipulative, and she is so hilariously mean to all of her kids except for Byron "Buster" Bluth played by Tony Hale, who is Lucilles favorite child for sure and is totally screwed  up from birth.  Michael's twin sister Lindsay Funke Played by Portia De Rossi is spoiled and materialistic, continually desiring to be the center of attention and attracted to various social causes. She is married to Tobias Funke played by David Cross, a discredited psychiatrist-turned-aspiring actor.  They have a daughter Maeby played by Alia Shawkat, a rebellious teen, whose chief motivation is defying her parents.  And that is who George Michael is in love with which is pretty hilarious.  She has no idea that George Michael is in love with her.  It's really hilarious and worth the watch if you have some time to Get Stoopid.

The Bluth Family

Movie pick of the week

What a great kids movie.  You know you love cartoons.  The movie is about an eccentric scientist named professor Bomba Voice played by Jason Sudeikis who has a 17 year old daughter Mary Katherine or MK as she likes to be called  voice played by Amanda Seyfried.  Professor Bomba and his wife are divorced and unfortunately she passed away so MK came to live with him.  The seemingly crazy professor believes that there is an advanced society of tiny little people living in the forest.  He has devoted his entire life to finding those tiny people in hopes of proving to the world or more so his ex-wife that they exist.  MK wants her dad to give it a rest all ready and come back to the land of the sheeple because she of course does not believe in this society of tiny people in the forest.  Now of course there is an advanced society of tiny people in the forest.  There is a forest queen named Queen Tara  played  by Beyonce Knowles and it is her time to pass the buck to someone else in the forest and retire from being queen.  There is a forest army called the Leafmen who are in charge of protecting the queen from the bad guys the Boggans.  They want to kill everything in the forest.  Well one day MK goes out to the forest and something happens where she shrinks.  Now she can see the little mini people and she knows that her dad isn't so crazy after all and she goes on a mission with the Leafmen to stop the boggans from killing the forest.   The animation was so beautiful and it was pretty funny.  There was  slug named mub voice played by Aziz Ansari and a snail named grub played by Chris O'Dowd and they were the funny guys of the movie.  There were so many great messages in the movie about the importance of nature and there were several hints made about different dimensions and it really got ya thinking about what is living in the Universe that we can't always see but never the less still exist.

We gave this movie 4 snaps

Website of the week

Zengardner.com

This weeks website is an alternative news blog.  There are so many different articles on that blog that really get ya thinking outside of the box.  All the articles are written by different people from all over.  Everyone is into different things from conspiracy theories to healing with energies.  One of the articles that we found really interesting was called 3 benefits of connecting with the earth.  The article was written by Dr. Daniel Chung.  He had such a great point that often times we overlook the simpler things in life like being connected to the beautiful mother earth who like the sun gives and gives without any judgment or anything in return.

3 key benefits of connecting with the Earth

1. Touching the earth is calming, reduces many negative effects of stress and can help you sleep.  I know a lot of people who can't sleep so maybe just go outside and dig your hand in the dirt plant a flower or a tree could be just what you need to get some better sleep at night.

2. Touching the earth is anti-inflammatory chronic inflammation is not a good thing. Earthing, which saturates the healthy tissue in your body with negative electrons, literally works to create a barrier through which free radicals cannot pass.

3. Touching the earth helps keep your blood flowing

So take off your shoes friends. Run and play like children.  Dig your hands into the Earth and see how it is beneficial to you and yours.

App of the week

This app is simply awesome!!  It lets you know which bands are coming to your town or a town near you.  When you RSVP to a certain concert that you want to go to it saves the date in your calendar on your phone.  It even emails you to let you know whos coming when and where.  Bomb App!!

What to do with the kiddos this summer?

Summer time is always fun and of course those kids gots to be entertained.  Here is a few of our ideas.

  • Taking the kids to a movie is always a big hit in our houses
  • Build a fort in the living room
  • Take the kids to Disneyland like Mais did.  Lucky bitch :)
  • Make garden beds for your kids to plant and tend.
  • Fill up some water balloons and play water balloon piñata.

Mais drinkin her wine at Disneyland

Balloon Piñata

Dig a hole

Spit in the hole

Plant the starts

Tend the garden barefoot

By planting your starts this way it gives the plant all the information it needs about your body.  So when the food grows and is ripe it will be a personalized piece of food designed specifically for your body.

Snews:

Where are the bees going?

This week talk about a very real topic.  The bees having been dieing in alarming numbers.  So we decided to do some research into the topic.  Where are the bees going?  Well we've been doing some research on that and several scientists think that the pesticides that are being used for the crops fog the bees minds making it hard for them to come home.  but pesticides was only one of the factors for the recent decline in bees.  There are simply less flowers due to land development, mites and viruses are a real problem but the scientist aren't really all that sure what is happening to the bees.  After more and more research I am becoming convinced that the pesticides are what is doing the damage to the bees.  In a honeybee experiment, researchers at the National Institute for Agricultural Research in France fed the bees a dose of neonicotinoid-laced sugar water and then moved them more than half a mile from their hive. The bees carried miniature radio tags that allowed the scientists to track how many returned to the hive.

In familiar territory, the scientists found, the bees exposed to the pesticide were 10 percent less likely than healthy bees to make it home. In unfamiliar places, that figure rose to 31 percent.

The bees are so important not only because they produce honey but also because our food supply relies on the pollination from the bees.  Now that we know there is a problem with the bees we looked up ways that we can be the solution.  I found a website called queenofthesun.com and it gave us 10 ways to help save the bees.

1. Plant bee friendly flowers and flowering herbs
2.Weeds can be a good thing.  let them flower so the bees can pollinate and then cut them back
3.Dont use pesticides
4.Buy Local, Raw Honey
5.Bees are thirsty, leave a small basin of water our for them
6.Buy Local food from farmers
7.Learn how to be a bee keeper
8.Understand that bees aren't out to get you
9.Share these solutions with other people in your community
10.Let your congress know what you think.  Your voice matters!

See you dont have to be scared of bees they love you.

Hell No GMO

FAR OUT:

Solar Plexus Chakra

The Solar plexus chakra also known as the navel chakra is just where it says it is right there in the navel it is yellow in color in the auric field.  When it is open, you feel in control and you have sufficient self esteem. When the Navel chakra is under-active, you tend to be passive and indecisive. You're probably timid and don't get what you want.If this chakra is over-active, you are domineering and probably even aggressive.

To bring this chakra in balance try putting some yellow in your life.  Maybe wear a yellow shirt.  Take some quiet time and visualize the color yellow in the center of the navel.  There is a great yoga posture for balancing the solar plexus chakra.
