Lighten up with Lex and Mais show #4 Its Super Fun Camping Time!

Welcome to Lighten up with Lex & Mais Its Super Fun Camping Time!

Look at that its Mustache Mics

This week we had a whole lotta fun going on what has now become our annual camping trip.   We always go out to the beautiful Hana for Alexis' birthday.  This year was the best weather by far.  It was super hot, no rain, and perfectly blue sunny skies for days.  Hamoa bay was once again the most beautiful beach on earth.

Good morning ladies

After our super fun camping time we went to see a pretty hilarious comedy show.  Augie T was the comedian.  He is a local guy who has some pretty funny local humour.  The set up for this comedy show was pretty interesting.  It seemed as though we were going to a conference or something but there was a cocktail waitress and the bathroom was close by so all in all it was a good time!

Well actually they work pretty good in wine

After the comedy show Lex decided that she had to get going home but Mais, well Mais she stayed out awhile longer and what did she do?  Oh well she went and did some karaoke at a very unique karaoke bar.  This karaoke bar is a bring your own drink and pupus (appetizers) kind of bar.  You are in a private room singing your heart out with only your friends.  No need to be intimidated by the mic when it's just you and your friends.  Sounds like the perfect karaoke experience.

Food For Health:

ASPARAGUS

This weeks Food for your health is Asparagus.  The veggie that grows under power lines and makes your pee smell funny.  Asparagus has a lot of great benefits for a healthy body.  Its a detox veggie rich in potassium and fiber.  It is low in sodium so it won't make you bloat during PMS time. The vitamin A and folate make it a great  anti-aging veggie and guess what else its also an aphrodisiac.  So if you're looking to spice it up in the bedroom maybe throw some asparagus on the dinner plate.  Asparagus is a member of the lily family and can be planted right in your flower bed at home.

This herbaceous plant—along with avocado, kale and Brussels sprouts—is a particularly rich source of glutathione, a detoxifying compound that helps break down carcinogens and other harmful compounds like free radicals. This is why eating asparagus may help protect against and fight certain forms of cancer, such as bone, breast, colon, larynx and lung cancers.  It also helps to prevent osteoporosis and osteoarthitis because it is rich in Vitamin K Which aids in bone forming and repair so if you are suffering from those symptoms adding some asparagus just might make you feel better.

Like leafy greens, asparagus delivers folate, which works with vitamin B12—found in fish, poultry, meat and dairy—to help prevent cognitive impairment. In a study from Tufts University, older adults with healthy levels of folate and B12 performed better on a test of response speed and mental flexibility. (If you’re 50-plus, be sure you’re getting enough B12: your ability to absorb it decreases with age.)

This weeks recipe is a garlicky asparagus flatbread pizza with a white sauce. And for our yummy cocktail we did a bloody mary with asparagus to garnish.

Garlicky Asparagus Flatbread

A premade dough found in the cold section of the grocery store

Parmesan Sauce:

1/3 cup flour
3 cups low-fat milk (1%)
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon butter
Directions:

1
In a medium, heavy saucepan, whisk flour to remove any lumps.
2
Gradually add 1 cup milk, whisking until smooth.
3
Add remaining milk and the nutmeg.
4
Whisk over medium heat until thickened and comes to a boil, about 4 minutes.
5
Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan and butter.
6
Season to taste.

A yellow squash
Asparagus
Garlic
Mozzarella cheese
Honey for drizzling

Slather the dough with the yummy parmesan sauce and top with mozzarella, yellow squash, asparagus, and garlic. Drizzle honey on top for an unexpected bit of sweetness.  We grilled ours but it also works fine to put in the oven.  This is a great recipe to bring to a dinner party to share or as a pupu (appetizer).

Bloody Mary

  • 1 large lime wedge
  • coarse salt, for garnish
  • 1 1/2 ounces high quality vodka
  • 4 ounces tomato juice
  • dash celery salt
  • dash freshly ground cracked pepper
  • 8 good shakes worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon horseradish
  • 1 to 2 good dashes good hot sauce
  • pimento stuffed green olive, for garnish
  • spicy pickled asparagus, for garnish
  • pickled green bean, for garnish
  • Take a glass and run the lime wedge around the rim to dampen. Dip top of the rim into coarse salt to completely go around the rim. Add first 7 ingredients together in the glass, squeeze the lime wedge into the glass and mix all together. Add the green olive on a toothpick, the pickled asparagus spear and pickled green bean, for garnish and enjoy.

                  Netflix pick of the week

Ok so we like cartoons.  Who doesn't right?  Adventure time is such a great kids show and its great for the adult who is still a kid inside like us.  Plus this cartoon is so funny.  Its about a human boy named Finn and his super hero dog named Jake.  They live in a magical land and they fight off any bad guys.  The voices of their characters are so hilarious.  Our favorites are the lumpy space princess and tree trunks.  Definitely worth the watch for some chuckles with the kiddos.

Tree Trunks

Super good book to read

This book was a really great enlightening read.  The author really gets personal about every day challenges of being a woman.  It was so relatable and we both felt better about our own day to day struggles just knowing that we aren't alone and every woman has a lot of the same challenges.  We should reach out to each other more often.  Its a good one. You can download it right on to your kindle.

App of the week;

This app is so much fun.  You take short videos and then you put them all together making a longer video.  You can share them with your friends.  The only bad thing is that it is only on the Iphone and so if anyone knows of an app that is similar for androids and droids and any other type of phone let us know. Search us on vine lexnmais.

Website of the week:

WHERETHEFUCKSHOULDIGOTOEAT.COM

This website is not only helpful but it is also hilarious.  The first thing it asks you is "where the fuck are you" when it gives the suggestion on where to go eat it tells you "you should go fucking eat here"  You can also change it to where the fuck should I go drink and it will give you a list of bars in your area.  All around awesomness.

WHAT'S YO STATUS?

Defriended:

Ok I am sure every single one of us has been defriended once or twice by a person on our social network site of choice.  There are always a number of feelings that happen once you've realized that someone had the audacity to defriend you.  But what if this person is someone that you have to see in the real world social settings?  Can you say awkward?  Check out the show for all the details of our defriending experiences.  What do you do in this circumstance?  Leave some comments if you got any.

Postcard of the week:

Urban dictionary word of the week:

Defriend - To remove someone from your Livejournal,
MySpace, Facebook, or other social networking site.  Doing this is often seen as a passive-aggressive move, telling the person without telling them that you no longer want to be friends.  It's also commonly a response to drama.  Defriending someone often causes more drama.  There are sometimes valid reasons for doing this.

SNEWS

This week we found a really ridiculous story that we just had to share.  A mother called the cops on her son because he stole her pop tarts.  The most ridiculous thing about it is the cops actually arrested the womans' son over it and charged him with larceny.  Now that is very loose butthole

FAR OUT

Sacral chakra:

The sacral chakra is located around the sacrum, the triangular bone that rests in the center of the pelvis and is associated with the color orange. The Sacral chakra is about feeling and sexuality. When it is open, your feelings flow freely, and are expressed without you being over-emotional. You are open to intimacy and you can be passionate and lively. You have no problems dealing with your sexuality.
If you tend to be stiff and unemotional or have a "poker face," the Sacral chakra is under-active. You're not very open to people.
If this chakra is over-active, you tend to be emotional all the time. You'll feel emotionally attached to people and you can be very sexual.

To balance the chakra you can try dancing, Bring the color orange into your life including sitting in silence and focusing on the color orange in the area of the sacral chakra, There is a yoga posture for balancing the chakra, and mais and I love doing  hula hooping for balancing that chakra.  Its a fun way to excersize and look awesome at parties any time you bust out some sweet hula hooping moves

Lighten up with Lex & Mais - Just Dance Show #3

Lex just so happens to be just the right height to bite Mais' boob

WELCOME TO LIGHTEN UP WITH LEX & MAIS

We are back for another great show to Enlighten Your Day.  This week on Wea you stay? We had a really great night.  We started it off with a prefunk at a party in a glass studio.  We loved the art.  They had some beautiful glass vases, a mama and baby whale, and some super beautiful glass waves.  We had some yummy Thai food and got to nod our head to some skanky beats by a local band called the Kryptones.  Big props to our friend Randy who's livin the dream through art.  If you want to check out some more of the art take a look at the website makaiglass.com

After the prefunk we went to go check out some Brown Chicken Brown Cow.  They are a string band. Basically the only string band that comes all the way to beautiful Maui, HI.  They are a really great band and are sweet to all of their fans.  They love to get down til all wee hours of the night and you just might see them playing on a roof top at dawn (mais tells that whole story on the show).

This cute couple sat by us and asked if we could get these guys to move out of the way so Lex asked very nicely and it was unsuccessful.  Where have all the gentleman gone anyways?

We met this girl and of course wanted a picture of that wild hair due.  She informed us and I quote "people ask to take my picture all the time" bahahahaha

FOOD FOR HEALTH:  ZUCCHINI

This week on food for health it's all about the very phallic looking veggie named zucchini.  Zucchini just so happens to be in season according to widespread.com.  Which is a great website because it tells you what fruit and veggies are in season month to month.  Zucchini has a lot of health benefits but by far the most important one in my book is the high amount of fiber which promotes healthy poops.  It is also an important food for men, which come on it looks just like a penis so duh...The phytonutrients in the zucchini helps men to keep their member nice and erect for years to come no viagra necessary.  It's high in manganese which helps the body to metabolize proteins and carbs as well as amino acids to help collagen form keeping the skin healthy and glowing.  Zucchini is enriched with beta-carotine and vitamin C.  It is just all around good for ya!  Lex made up a most delicious Zucchini salad with parmesan pine nuts.  Oh it was really good.  And for a drink Mais made up a very sweet but delicious Zucchini martini.

Whisk oil, lemon juice, 1 teaspoon coarse salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, and crushed red pepper in small bowl to blend. Set dressing aside.
Using vegetable peeler or V-slicer and working from top to bottom of each zucchini, slice zucchini into ribbons (about 1/16 inch thick). Place ribbons in large bowl. Add basil and nuts, then dressing; toss to coat. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Using vegetable peeler, shave strips from Parmesan wedge over salad.

Get Stoopid:

                   Movie of the week:

This weeks movie choice is This is 40.  A pretty funny yet slightly depressing comedy that we ordered right from the comfort of our own living room.  The movie is about a married couple.  Paul Rudd plays the dad and Leslie Mann is the wife.  Both of them are turning 40.  They've got two daughters and are trying to live the American dream.  We gave that movie 3 snaps.

                Netflix of the week:

The final Season of Breaking Bad was out and of course we had to watch it.  Mais isn't that big a fan of the series but Lex got totally addicted to the chaos of every season.  "It's the cliff hanger that gets me to keep watching every last episode."  The series is about a man named Walter white who is a chemistry teacher that has been diagnosed with cancer and because the chemo is so expensive and he wants to provide for his family  he goes the dirty route and uses his chemist knowledge to start cooking meth.  The show is unique in watching a character go from being quiet and reserved to being a sort of scarface bad guy.

              Best Website:

This website is super.  It focuses on sustainable living but gives you all sorts of other great info like how to naturally relieve your childs asthma, recipes for natural yeast donuts and how to attach goat hair to your daughters mutilated barbie doll head.  She's got a weekly meal plan, and a pretty funny topic called are you overdosing on essential oils.  Less is more of course.

            App of the week;

The idea is that all apps go free for a short amount of time to get people to check them out.  This app tells you what apps are free and it updates everyday.

What's yo status?

This weeks What's yo status is all about the products you use during menstruation. This is called the menstrual cup.  Mais did some research on the cup and found that the lunette brand was the best option.  Why use a cup instead of the usual tampon or pad?  Well the first reason is you are being more environmentally conscious.  There are way to many period products in the landfills.  The cotton farmers use 1/4 of the worlds pesticides on top of that the cotton in tampons is GMO.  Both mold and traces of cocaine are found in the tampon.  You can wear the Lunette Cup for up to 12 hours and you can safely work out with it in.  The best part is the price.  It's worth doing some research on and making your own decision.

Postcard of the week:

SnewS

Well this is some weird news.  This story takes place in Amsterdam.  Meet the Fokken twins, Louis and Martine.  Uh yea these two ladies are 70 years old and their hookers.  These twins got themselves a documentary on netflix and of course we watched it.  It was a sad story but pretty funny too.

Far out

This week on far out we talk about the base chakra.  Located midway between the anus and the genitals or the perineum.  This chakra links us to the physical world.  Some ways you can tell if your base chakra is out of balance is if you tend to feel nervous or fearful, you may feel depressed, or lethargic.  If the chakra is over active you may feel materialistic and greedy, aggressive, and some paranoia.  We give some really great tips on the show on how to balance this chakra make sure you check it out!

Thank you all so much for checking out the blog and we hope you listen to our show. lexandmais.com you can check us out on facebook under lex mais, follow us on twitter and sound cloud too.
